The rising global oil prices have brought imported inflation, pushing up domestic production and living costs.     The crisis has no quick fix. Naphtha, a key petroleum byproduct with no substitute, is in short supply globally, leaving nations with limited recourse. It will continue to weigh on global growth, push up inflation, and reshape the energy security strategies of many countries.

  • The production of our country's largest coalbed methane field is continuing to improve steadily!
      As of May 12th, the largest deep coalbed methane gas production base in China - the Dagiji Gas Field of China National Petroleum Corporation - has been reporting a series of successful production achievements. This year, the cumulative gas production has reached 1.412 billion cubic meters, an increase of 38.6% compared to the previous year. Currently, the daily gas output of this gas field is 11 million cubic meters, and the production trend is continuing to improve, demonstrating the practical effectiveness of the coalbed methane company of China National Petroleum Corporation in breaking through and overcoming the difficulties of deep-level extraction through technological innovation.   The Da Ji gas field has accelerated the iteration and upgrading of the lifting technology, innovatively applying new technologies such as post-segment fracturing wellbore cleaning and hydraulic rodless pumps. This has successfully overcome the traditional production bottlenecks and achieved multiple benefits including improved development, reduced energy consumption, and increased efficiency.   • Research Status and Prospect of Intelligent Drill Bit Technology
      Intelligent drill bit technology, as the core direction of the intelligent development of drilling engineering, integrates perception, self-adaption, and decision-making control functions, significantly enhancing drilling efficiency, prolonging drill bit run life, and ensuring operational safety. The research progress of the two major technical paths of intelligent drill bits was systematically reviewed: Instrumented drill bits focus on near-bit high-frequency data acquisition. They have evolved from vibration monitoring to multi-parameter integrated measurement (such as Halliburton Cerebro Force and Baker Hughes MultiSense 2.0), achieving full-parameter perception of the drill bit’s dynamics. However, the real-time transmission and the ability to identify formation characteristics still need to be overcome. Adaptive drill bits achieve dynamic optimization of the depth of cut and drill bit shape through passive hydraulic mechanical structures (such as the depth of cut control cartridge of the TerrAdapt drill bit) or active adjustment mechanisms (such as the prototype of the NOV retractable blade). This effectively suppresses stick-slip vibrations. However, the adjustment accuracy and active response capability are limited. The development prospect of intelligent drill bits was discussed. It is pointed out that the deep integration of instrumentation, adaptive technology, and decision-making control systems is the mainstream direction of the future development of intelligent drill bits. Based on the current challenges of intelligent drill bit technology, the key technological research directions for the future are proposed.

  • Sedimentary environment and facies types of Eocene Baoshi Formation in Pingbei Area, Pinghu Slope Belt, Xihu Sag, East China Sea Basin
      The unclear understanding of the sedimentary environment and facies of the Baoshi Formation in the Pingbei Area of the Pinghu Slope Belt, Xihu Sag, East China Sea Basin, has restricted the evaluation of the Baoshi Formation reservoirs and source rocks in this area, and hindered the progress in oil and gas exploration. Based on the redefinition of the Baoshi Formation strata, a systematic study of the sedimentary environment and facies of the Baoshi Formation from nine wells in the study area was conducted by integrating paleontology, trace element analysis, core observation, grain size analysis, and logging facies analysis. The types of sedimentary facies in the Baoshi Formation were clarified. The results showed that the Baoshi Formation in the Pingbei Area had low contents of algae and palynomorphs, with hygrophilous fern spores being dominant. A small number of dinoflagellates, calcareous nannofossils, and foraminifera were present. These features indicated that during the deposition of the Baoshi Formation, the environment was a brackish marine-continental transitional setting under predominantly warm and humid climatic conditions. Comprehensive analysis of Sr, Ba, Ni, and V indicated that the Baoshi Formation was deposited under a weakly reducing, suboxic environment. Compared with the Tiantai Slope Belt, more freshwater terrestrial fossils were found in the Pingbei Area, suggesting a relatively restricted transitional sedimentary environment between land and sea. The sedimentary environment and facies varied across different structural zones in the study area. In the Kongqueting Structural Zone, the Baoshi Formation was mainly characterized by deltaic sedimentary facies, primarily consisting of underwater distributary channels, mouth bars, and interdistributary bay microfacies, with limited development of sheet sand bodies. In the Baoyunting and Wuyunting Structural Zones, the Baoshi Formation was deposited in an environment influenced by local seawater, where tidal flat facies and intertidal sand bodies were developed. The intertidal zone mainly contained tidal channels, sandflats, mixed flats, and mud flats as depositional microfacies. In the southern part of the western slope belt, the Tiantai Slope Belt developed thick mudstone layers, suggesting restricted marine deposition with a relatively limited spatial distribution.

  • Experimental Study on the Influence of Supercritical CO2 on Shale Fracture Morphology
      In the ahead fracturing process of supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2), the injected CO2 is easy to enter the porous media of shale, and combined with the formation water or water-based fracturing fluid to form a slightly acidic fluid, thus stimulating the initiation and propagation of shale microfractures. To clarify the influence of CO2 on the initiation and propagation of shale microfractures, a combined experiment of pressurized soaking and uniaxial compression was carried out, and the influence of fluid type, soak time and soak sequence on the initiation and propagation of shale microfractures was studied. The study results show that the ahead injection of CO2 can promote the opening of bedding fractures, and the longer the CO2 action time, the more bedding fractures are opened. When the pressure drops, the bedding fractures opened by SC-CO2 are prone to close. However, when the “SC-CO2→water” composite action occurs, water easily enters the bedding fractures opened by CO2 to form effective support, reacts with CO2 to generate carbonic acid to dissolve carbonate minerals, weakens the mechanical strength of shale, promotes the propagation of microcracks, and forms a complex and stable fracture network. When the “water→SC-CO2” composite action occurs, water infiltrates into the small pores of shale under the action of pressure difference and capillary force, forming a large amount of water film on the pore wall, seriously hindering the diffusion of CO2 into the shale, and making it difficult to effectively open the bedding fractures. Moreover, the fracture propagation of vertical bedding samples is mainly controlled by loading stress, and the influence of fluid is weak. After cracking, a tilted fracture surface that penetrates the bedding is generally formed. The study results provide a theoretical basis for optimizing the technological parameter design of CO2 ahead fracturing of shale, and are of great significance for improving the development efficiency of shale oil and promoting the geological storage of CO2.
